Escargot
I was walking through downtown Monrovia this afternoon in search of some caffeine when I found this little guy lost in the rain.

Five more of you and I'd have dinner.
Antidote for a cloudy day
My trip to San Francisco has thus far been filled with sunny skies and relatively warm weather. That is, until I woke this morning to dark skies and ominous clouds in the horizon. Definitely NOT the way I wanted to spend my day before heading up to French Laundry. I quickly fixed this problem when my friend took me to Specialty's Cafe and Bakery for cookies. The milk chocolate chip and peanut butter cookies were so fresh and warm that the chocolate chips (chunks would be more appropriate) were still melting as you bit into them. How could these cookies NOT cheer you up and get you excited (via sugar high) for French Laundry?

I would love to live in the Ferry Building if I could, especially if I can eat at Hog Island everyday.

My first attempt at food pr0n – Bottega Louie
This is a huge works in progress, but I wanted to upload these pictures from lunch at Bottega Louie today and figure out what worked and what obviously...didn't work.

This is the very first shot with digital macro on, and my mom and my grandmother staring at me wondering what I was doing. I'm definitely NOT used to being the one taking the pictures. I don't mind dining with people who do, I'm just not usually that person.
These next few shots were horrendous. Obviously (digital) macro wasn't the correct setting to use because every shot was blurry.

When I asked my mom to let me snap some pictures of her smoked salmon benedict, she told my grandmother, "this is what all the kids do these days, take pictures of their food." My grandmother thought that was pretty funny. Considering how bad these shots were, I could have saved us all those three minutes and just started eating.

Clearly, pun intended, I have a lot more work to do when it comes to camera settings and and capturing a good picture. Then again, that sure is a nice crispy picture of the edge of the plate though.
This one, in my humble opinion, was much better.

As was this shot of the NY steak. I cropped this photo because eggs sunny side up just don't look good. The day I can capture the beauty of eggs sunny side up will be the day I've become an accomplished photographer.

Finally, I decided to snap a quick pic of the family in portrait mode. Needless to say, I forgot to turn the flash off and felt like a horrendous chinese tourist. bad me.

Not a bad first trip out with the camera, but there is A LOT of room for improvement. There will be more to come.
And oh yeah, this was taken with my Canon Powershot SD600.
